I've decided to write this after finding very little first hand reviews before coming here. I'll start with the rooms: there are three different types - tower, annex and flats. FYHS generally get the flats because they are quiet and the towers and annex are shared equally. I got the tower which is much older than the annex but you get a balcony so that more than made up for it in my mind. There are just 3 showers and 3 toilets for the 17 people on our floor so this can sometimes be a problem but as people tend to get up at very different times it doesn't matter as much as you would think. The main problem is noise; people come to Dunedin to get rowdy, and it shows. I was lucky to have a great group of people on my floor but I know people who weren't so lucky. One option in alcohol free; if you choose this you get put in the top floor of one of the towers, and while it is quiet, I have heard that it is really boring. The food is alright, but I mean just alright. It's mass produced with more of those little cubes of frozen carrot, peas and sweetcorn that everyone hated in their youth. There is always a meal waiting for you though and so that's a plus. The twee library was nice to begin with but people soon made it a mess. It was good for getting away from the noise of the floor if I had to though. Chris makes the place, and I very much mean that. He is very personable and is always keen for a chat. I would recommend coming here. Everyone applies for Arana and so places are limited but UniCol offers tutorials even if they're not quite on par. No-one hates you if you go to UniCol -- that can't be said for Arana.
