The ladies at Looking Good Alterations in Dunedin were brilliant with mine, and superfast. I just needed my wedding dress shortened, despite buying it on Trademe it fitted like a glove otherwise. I also had a bridesmaid dress for another wedding altered there, that was pretty tricky but they did a great job. I would recommend them.

I took my Mums wedding dress which I will be wearing at my own wedding into Looking Good Alterations. They have recently opened a second store in Albany place where the owner Alina works. I was after some simple alterations which I could have done myself but I decided that I would have it done "professionally" to avoid any problems (HaHa). All that I wanted done was the lace sleeves cut (literally just snipped off which was going to cost $15), some small cap sleeves made from the old sleeves and some loops put down the back where the buttons used to be so that I could thread some ribbon down there. What I got back was hardly a professional job. One sleeve was wider than the other and they had been gathered differently and sewn to the bodice in different places on either side. The modesty panel behind the ribbon was made of POPLIN (really in a satin dress?) and she (Alina) had removed the zip (???????) from the skirt part of the dress below the bodice and put loops down there as well so that when the ribbon was in the looked like it was plaited because the loops were so close together and the ribbon ended in the most unflattering place on my butt. To top it all off I was charged $200 after being quoted $140. I have talked to Alina about how disappointed I was with the work that she had done and she has offered to "look" at the dress again for me but no mention of a refund, apparently the extra cost was because she had to buy material (A tiny piece of Poplin? it looks like an offcut).
I however have decided that I would rather not take it back to her because I would be devastated if it came back beyond repair.

I would NEVER recommend this business to anyone and I certainly will not be going back in there myself. If you would like your garment to have the attention to detail that it deserves then take it to a proper dressmaker! I have learnt my lesson!
